From Highway 101 turn
east onto Highway 46, turn left onto Airport Road, then right onto Dry Creek
Road.
More than 200 volunteers
have developed this private museum of historic aircraft, military
machinery and war-era memorabilia ranging from pictures to uniforms. An onsite
reference library of some 5,000 books documents
American involvement in war around the world.
The museum was named after the World War II U.S.
Army Air Corps P-38 training base once situated on the adjacent Paso Robles
Municipal Airport. Estrella Warbirds operates on land
leased from the city and most of the aircraft on display are on loan from the
U.S. Naval Museum in Pensacola, Florida.
The official hours are
Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays noon to 3
p.m., but weekday tours are available by appointment, and special events are
also scheduled occasionally throughout the year.
The Estrella Squadron
meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the meeting hall on site.
Young people are welcome to take part in most aspects of the organization,
including aircraft renovation.
